To coincide with the Women's Foodservice
Forum annual conference this past week, Nation's Restaurant News published a
special report on women in the foodservice industry and People
Report was given the opportunity to share our research and insights
into workforce issues for women. You can check out the article
here.
People Report also presented the highlights from over a decade
of research into gender diversity issues at the Women's Foodservice
Forum conference. Here are some of the insights we shared:
- The percentage of the women in the workforce is highly
correlated to GDP growth
- The same holds true for the percentage of female managers hired
to run our restaurants
- Women make up about 46% of the workforce, but compromise only
30% of our management hires
- The percentage of women hired as managers has not surpassed 30%
during this decade
- Despite the fact that women make up 51% of the hourly
restaurant workforce, only 30% make it to the management level
- Quick Service hires a higher percentage of women managers
compared to other industry segments
- Those companies in the top quartile for female management hires
have lower hourly turnover than those who hire at the bottom
quartile.
- Winners of People Report Best Practice Awards hire more female
managers than the rest of their competitors
There is a clear and present
opportunity for foodservice companies to maximize the potential and
value of women in the labor force and in hourly positions at our
restaurants today.
